"The Captains"

"The Captains", will be a Wooden Sailing Boat Showcase to honor Kostas Gouzelis.

K. Gouzelis, lived and offered more than forty years in Naoussa, Paros, in the heart of the Aegean and continues to live in the hearts of the people he marked.
On the third weekend of September we want to honor him by filling the bay of Naoussa with all kinds of sails, on wooden boats that he loved so much. With songs, dance and smiles.
Let's meet friends and meet new people.
We try to organize everything for an unforgettable three days.
The help we need is, first of all, the weather! but more important is to help us with your presence. It's the moment when practically everyone, a lover of wooden boats must prove their love.
The success of such events depends on the abundance of open sails.

So come on! Come, as if from another era, to show the sea that it is too small to hold us.
Wooden sloops traveled him in the Aegean, Nyn and Aei.

During the three days from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 September 2017, a demonstration race of wooden sailing boats will take place in Naoussa, Paros, under the name "Ta Kapetaneika".

Friday 15.09.17

Arrival of boats.

Participating boats will enter the port of Naoussa where they will anchor.

Completing the necessary documents for participation.

19:00 Opening of an exhibition of works by Kostas Gouzelis at the facilities of the marina of Naoussa

In the Marina facilities, sculptures, paintings, books, photographs of K. Gouzelis will be hosted

21:00 Screening of the documentary "Athena from Zero".

A creation of Kostas and Phoebus that presents the construction of a wooden boat from scratch, narrated by K. Gouzelis.

Saturday 16.09.17

09:00-10:00 Departure of the boats from the port of Naoussa for the start of the race.

12:00 Start of the wooden sailing boat demonstration race.

Wooden boat demonstration race. A race unlike any other. A race of love and noble competition. A single category, without objections, without friction. Minor and major chords together, minor and major.

Calculating ideally in a moderate north wind, let's start offshore, north of Paros in a track and finish in front of the port of Naoussa, greeting the last boat (and Kostas), the "Athina", which will also be the Committee boat. Upon passing the imaginary finish line "Athena" - Harbor Light, instead of sounding the Commission's bell, each boat will salute - finish with its own sound and continue west towards Kolymbithres

Looking for wooden boats, we discovered wooden motorboats, boats, fishing boats, excursion boats, boats without sails. So we thought they should participate too, offering something special:

After we have indicated to their Captains how they should move during the race, so that they do not get in the way, let us fill them with locals and visitors of Paros so that they can capture either in their memory or on their memory cards, these beautiful pictures. Apart from the finish, for the spectators the rest of the race is not interesting because they are far away. The idea is to bring them together, to smell the wood, to feel the tremors, as someone once brought us.

Even if one cares and loves the wooden ones, the goal has been achieved.

18:00 Return to the port of Naoussa

After swimming we will return to Naoussa.

We will all tie up in the harbor. In as many vessels as their depths allow in the old, the largest in the new. They say that in the old days, when the weather was bad, everyone would fit inside the small one (there was no big one), danes, one stuck to the other! We will do the same now, balloons and we will jump from boat to boat to go out to the square in the small port.

On that day, the 8th Triathlon Race (Swimming-Cycling-Running) is organized at the "Cultural - Environmental Park of Paros" in Ai Giannis Detis.

09:00 Departure from Naoussa to Monastir

We will go there and anchor arodo.

We will go ashore, first to the beach and later to Cellia in the permanent exhibition of Russian Cartography of the period 1769-1774. An unknown period in our history when over a hundred wooden boats sailed in the bay of Naoussa. There will be a guided tour of the exhibition and a parallel screening of excerpts from the series created by Gouzelis, "Aegean Now and Forever".
